“Be There” Local Students Honored for Perfect Attendance

Philadelphia-“I am proud of who I am. I will respect people who are different from me. I will refrain from speaking badly of others. I will assist my friends to reject violence. I will become a productive member of my community.” The words of the “Student Pledge” were recited by nearly 70 high school students at the Health Partners Foundation’s Annual “Be There” Awards Luncheon at the National Liberty Museum last week.

“Be There” is a program developed by the Health Partners Foundation, in partnership with the National Liberty Museum and the Gallery at Market East, to make high school students aware of the connection between attendance, good grades, and future success, and to encourage them to attend school every day. Students are recognized for achieving perfect attendance during each marking period. At the end of the year, those with perfect attendance for at least three out of four marking periods are honored at the awards luncheon at the National Liberty Museum. Amongst this year’s honorees are students from Murrell Dobbins Vocational Technical High School, Randolph Career Academy, Norristown Area High School, and Roosevelt Alternative School.

During the luncheon, Angelia Nelson, PhD, author and motivational speaker, offered students an inspiring message about achieving their goals. She also presented female awardees with an autographed copy of her new book, The Ghetto Is Not My Final Destination. Male awardees received a copy of the New York Times Bestseller, The Pact, co-authored by Sampson Davis, M.D., George Jenkins, D.M.D., and Rameck Hunt, M.D.

In addition, the students also received a free tour and one-time family museum pass for the National Liberty Museum, a $25 gift card from the Gallery at Market East, movie tickets, and a copy of the “Student’s Pledge.”
